How to write
a tattoo prompt

  1. Add a subject. Describe the main motif. For example, “a crescent moon with two wild fern fronds.” Use an example or Random subject for a starting point.
  2. Choose the details. Set the style, placement, line weight, shading, palette and approximate size. Add any elements you want to leave out.
  3. Generate and copy. Generate prompt keeps your input and creates a text brief. Copy prompt puts the visible brief on your clipboard. If copying is blocked, use Select text and copy from your keyboard or selection menu.

A simple subject, a specific brief

A subject such as “a moth” leaves many choices open. “A small moth inside a crescent moon, with fern fronds beneath it” gives the design a clearer arrangement. Use a few visual details rather than a long story.

Subject: A moth inside a crescent moon
Style: Fine line · Placement: Forearm
Line weight: Fine · Shading: Light dotwork
Palette: Black ink · Size: Medium
Elements to avoid: Lettering and a dense background

Using the result

This tool generates a written brief. Paste it into an image tool or share it with your tattoo artist, who can refine the composition and scale. The homepage illustration is a fixed original example.

Editing and saving

Changes are saved in this browser when storage is available. Changing a setting keeps the previous prompt visible until you generate again. Reset & clear asks for confirmation before clearing this tool’s saved idea and open form.

Tab reaches every control. Use the arrow keys to choose a select option. In the subject field, Enter starts a new line; use Generate prompt when ready.
